Hublot Brings Back The Big Bang Unico Sky Blue Just In Time For A Vacation To Warmer Shores

by Sameera Gamage

Hublot’s latest release is bringing back the Big Bang Unico Sky blue, just in time for the European Summer! The Big Bang Unico is one of the more iconic timepieces in Hublot’s collection, and now it’s available again in the stunning new sky blue colour. Again you asked? Hublot released this particular model in a 45mm version back in 2020. The cosmetic design of the 2020 model was exactly the same as this new timepiece, with the main changes being that the case size is now reduced to 42mm, and with this change, a different movement is also used.

The colour blue is one of the most popular colours in the world, with the colour representing new horizons, a sense of adventure and exploration. The colour baby blue or sky blue is instantly symbolic of summer times, representing water at the beach or pool and of course clear skies on a hot summer day.

This version of the Big Bang Unico comes in a ceramic case with the collection’s now standard 42mm case size. Ceramic is a material Hublot can call themselves an expert in. In 2019, Hublot had a world first in the watchmaking industry by creating (now patented) brightly coloured ceramic cases. Ever since the creation of the first colours in ceramic, Hublot has essentially every Pantone colour at its disposal. Now, the Big Bang Unico Sky Blue is back with a bang, and it’s here to create some waves.

We honestly love this colour. The sky blue perfectly accentuates the features of the timepiece without providing a direct contrast through darker colours. The watch was made for summer. Combining the iconic colours of blue and white to give that playful summer feel. This model also comes with a choice of two different straps. Firstly a light blue and white lined rubber strap to match the colours of the case or a white calfskin leather with velcro faster and light blue ceramic buckle. Either strap choice is perfectly suited for the occasion the watch is designed for; outdoors.

Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot shares the same sentiment as he states “Summer is a festive affair at Hublot! Sea, air, exercise, freedom, fun and time with family and friends. Small, simple pleasures inspired by the sight of a clear blue sky, yet enough to fill us with renewed dynamism. You’ll need plenty of energy to prepare for, make the most of, and savour the memories of the coming summer. The Big Bang Unico Sky Blue can give you the boost you need! “Hublot loves Summer”.

The HUB1280 manufacture calibre movement can be seen from the open-worked dial. This self-winding chronograph movement with a power reserve of 72 hours can also be admired from the timepiece’s open case back. To allow for excellent readability even with the open-worked dial, Hublot has given generous amounts of SuperLumi-Nova for the hour indices and hands, which also appear to be suspended on the dial. The white SuperLumi-Nova also adds to the fun summer colour palette of the watch.

This timepiece, however, is a limited edition model that’s capped at just 200 pieces. While this may be unfortunate news, whoever has the chance to grab one of these watches before they are sold out will be a lucky owner! The timepiece isn’t ideal for formal attire, however, it is versatile for pretty much everything else. And the sky blue colour? Be warned this piece will stand out. In a good way.
