Mark Wahlberg’s Patek Philippe 5734/300P Grand Complication

by Chamath Gamage

Mark Wahlberg is known for obtaining ultra rare timepieces. Specifically, Patek Philippe watches. Some of his rarest collections include Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph reference 5271/13P-001 and Skymoon Tourbillion reference 6002R.

Father of four’s latest addition is the newly released Patek Phillipe Minute Repeater, perpetual calendar reference 5734/300P grand complication.

Why is this timepiece so special? Well, it combines two highly sought-after major complications from Patek Phillippe, a minute repeater and a perpetual calendar.

The Platinum 42mm in case is set with an array of baguette-cut diamonds. One hundred twenty baguette cut diamonds are set on the concave bezel in a double row pattern and on the flange (total 7.1 carats), 86 diamonds on the case band and slide (total 3.5 carats) and 22 diamonds on the platinum clasp (total 1.01 carats). The blue lacquered dial is set with 13 sapphires which adds a spectacular depth effect. Also, the blue lacquered dial has three subdials that indicate the day, date, month, leap year, 24-hr time and moon phases.

The case back on the 5374 looks spectacular. It’s worth noting that this caseback can be interchangeable with a solid and sapphire crystal case-back. In-house manufactured self-winding mechanical movement, Caliber R 27 Q is a minute repeater with “cathedral” gongs (wrapped almost twice around the movement and producing a deep, rich sound) which can also be seen on the caseback.

This watch is yet to hit the second-hand market, indicating how rare this timepiece is, and to obtain it, one needs to have some serious connections and deep pockets. We expect this watch to fetch well over a million dollars when one eventually pops up in the second-hand market.
